Henderson is still the "Hovis" of the garage door market. If people know one garage door brand name, it's Henderson. Founded in 1921, they have over 3 million doors on peoples' garages up and down the country. However, the company has changed hands over the years and in 2008, Cardo, the owner of the Henderson UK brand, closed the factory in Bowburn, Co.Durham.
In the mid 1990's Henderson absorbed the Birtley range of garage doors, the styles of which were available in the Castle range of Henderson doors for a while.
Henderson garage doors offered the biggest range of standard and made-to-measure steel up and over garage doors on the market. Doors as small as 6ft x 6ft or as large as 16ft x 8ft high were made at their highly automated factory in County Durham. Another sad tale of British engineering being forced out of the market by higher quality, German-owned brands, such as Hormann and Garador.
The only Henderson garage door remaining available on the British market from 2008, is the Henderson G60 Sectional garage door. Manufactured in Sweden, it is a highly insulated product, draught-proof, very secure and available in various designs and finishes. The G60 evolved from the Henderson G30, itís slightly less insulated predecessor.
Due to the popularity of Henderson garage doors in the 1960ís, 70ís and 80ís, spare parts are now in high demand.
